LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Peter J. Lucido on Thursday bid farewell to intern Matthew Hutnick, a University of Detroit sophomore majoring in communications, who recently concluded his time working with the senator.
Hutnick, who began his internship last January, spent the day shadowing Lucido, attending meetings and accompanying the senator on the Senate floor.
“I have been fortunate to have had so many fine interns from ‘back home in Macomb’ serve in my offices in the Legislature,” said Lucido, R-Shelby Township. “Matthew, like his predecessors — some of whom now have full-time positions in the Legislature — and contemporaries, came to the office with capabilities and enthusiasm. My staff provided him with guidance and input to help him grow and perform in a professional setting, and soon he became a part of the team.”
Internships are unpaid with flexible hours, and school credit is also available. Interested applicants or those with questions about the Michigan Senate’s hiring practices should contact [email protected] or call 517-373-7670.
“Interning in a legislative office is a great learning opportunity and provides valuable experience for interested students,” Lucido said.
