LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Peter J. Lucido is preparing legislation that would enable firefighters and police officers in the state to carry auto injectable epinephrine.
“Epinephrine is in short supply here and throughout the country,” said Lucido, R-Shelby Township. “Given that families are struggling to find an affordable solution, many find themselves without this potentially lifesaving drug.
“To help protect the health and safety of our people, it only makes sense that firefighters and police officers be able to carry auto injectable epinephrine.”
A recent article in Consumer Reports, citing drug manufacturers and prominent national pharmacies, indicated there is a nationwide shortage of auto injectable epinephrine, in both branded and generic forms.
Lucido said he hopes the legislation, which he is working on with colleague Sen. Michael D. MacDonald, will be formally introduced soon.
